Farming to protect our planet

How small-scale farmers can make our planet more resilient.

Most of the world’s 500 million small-scale farmers struggle to feed their families using common farming practices that degrade the land.

Sustainable Harvest International, a nonprofit with over 27 years of experience, partners with family farmers to adopt new practices that benefit both people and the planet. The documentary Roots of Renewal follows Flo as she discovers how small-scale farmers in Central America are feeding their communities while playing a crucial role in healing the planet.

To date, Sustainable Harvest International has helped:

-4,000 low-income farmers

-Restoring 30,000 acres of land

- Planting 5 million trees

In the words of scholar Vandana Shiva who appears in the documentary as a leading expert: “What is good for the soil is good for your health.”.

Watch Roots of Renewal to learn how small-scale farms can offer us hope for a more resilient and equitable future.

It’s important to know that everybody contributes to the change. It’s not only up to the farmers to reproduce better farming practices, but it’s also the general public when they make their choices in the supermarket that they actually think hard about: what is the environmental cost of a cheap tomato?
