BirdLife West Africa Marine Conservation Programme is coordinating regional and national projects to understand coastal and pelagic ecosystems, their threats, and to restore habitats for the benefit of birds and coastal communities who depend on marine environments.

Ngone is coordinating the coastal seabirds project- Conservation of coastal seabirds and their key sites along the West African coast. The project is implemented in Mauritania, Senegal and Guinea Bissau where breeding habitats of the targeting terns and gulls occurred. The goal of the project is to have bird priority sites well managed with thriving populations of coastal waterbirds, especially terns and gulls. The coastal seabirds project is part of MAVA’s Outcome Action Plan ‘Halting disturbance of breeding and wintering shorebirds in West Africa’ (PAZHOC), which aims is to establish environmental monitoring and to inform managers and decision-makers on how best to manage the sites in a way that promotes both sustainable livelihoods for people and the maintenance of rich biodiversity.
