The Marine Diaries is an organisation on a mission to communicate ocean science. We are a 1% for the Planet non-profit, and a member of the European Commission’s EU4Ocean initiative to increase ocean literacy.

Most people know the ocean is under threat, but don’t fully understand why this is or how they can help. It is easy to be overwhelmed by ambiguous statements, misinformation, or scientific jargon. And the problem is not just that science isn’t communicated, it also doesn’t reach enough people. The Marine Diaries has created a different genre of science communication, one that embodies modern digital media and creates a network of ocean advocates. We want to break the mould and reach people who have the power to make real change. You.

The Marine Diaries educates and influences the public through engaging content, and inspires the next generation of ocean warriors. The Marine Diaries connects people with the ocean, by bringing them the beauty of the underwater world, and exposing them to the struggle experienced by marine life and people alike due to current anthropogenic threats. Through the power of science communication, it encourages responsible behaviour now, and for the future.
Since 2018, The Marine Diaries has expanded into a global organisation, now encompassing 35 volunteers spanning 12 countries. To date, we have run an awareness campaign on plastic pollution, have ongoing article and webinar series, and have launched a public education initiative designed to increase awareness of different marine ecosystems.
