Discover the ancient farming practice of transhumance in Spain. Following Jesús “Suso” Garzón as he and his fellow shepherds herd their flock of sheep and goats from the stunning mountain pastures of Cantabria, across idyllic plains and rivers, to end up crossing the centre of Madrid, the film will highlight how this unique traditional technique of raising animals not only reduces their impact on the planet, but actively creates new life and improves ecosystems.Asociación Trashumancia y Naturaleza (TyN) has since 1997 worked to ensure that transhumance is recognized for its environmental, social and economic value. To achieve this, TyN gives in situ support and advice to transhumant shepherd families, collaborates in the production of scientific research and data, promotes communication and educational activities and lobbies in favour of fair public policy support.

Our objective is that transhumant pastoralism, as a form of extensive livestock farming, receives proper financial support for its positive contributions to society and nature. These include: halting and reversing biodiversity loss, improving the connectivity of High Nature Value ecosystems through the Spanish network of drovers’ roads, supporting mitigation of climate change and adaptation to its impacts, and creating jobs that sustain nature in rural areas.

TyN joined forces in 2021 with 12 other organisations to create the Alliance of Mediterranean Nature & Culture (AMNC) for supporting the conservation of Mediterranean cultural landscapes and delivering better socio-economic, cultural and environmental outcomes for producers and communities.
